History

In 1904 Andreas Jost opened his cooperative bakery on the site where Pernet Comestibles stands today. In 1907 his daughter, Adele von Grünigen, and her husband, Armin Hefti, took over the house and opened a grocery store.

Only 4 years later, in 1915 Viktor Grossmann built the former Pernet chalet on the same site, which he had purchased from Armin Hefti, and opened his grocery store. His son, Alfred Grossmann, installed new shop windows in 1956. At that time he was already adopting a new approach which gave rise to much discussion in the village. Cold water ran down the inside of the shop windows to keep the vegetables moist and fresh. He also installed the first automatic shop door - a sensation at the time as it was the first of its kind in Gstaad.

In 1967 Roland Pernet signed a lease for the business premises and was able to purchase the chalet in 1982. Many amusing anecdotes have been handed down from this period. The story goes, for example, that at Christmas time he impaled the turkeys on old broomsticks which he then stuck in the snow outside the house. His greatest achievement was, without doubt, the initiative which led to the foundation of the ‘tourist board’ (now known as Gstaad Saanenland Tourism). This was his ‘baby’.

In 1986 Roland Pernet died suddenly and left his business to his godson, Thomas Staub. Thomas, who was completing his apprenticeship at Pernet Comestibles at the time, was faced with a real challenge at a young age. His parents, Max and Lisbeth Staub, supported Thomas in every respect so that, in spite of his youth, he was able to run the business successfully for 15 years.

In 2002 Patric Lutz and Michael Kneubühler were able to purchase the company Roland Pernet AG. In the following years Pernet Comestibles was continuously improved. In 2007 Thomas Staub sold the old building to the owners of Roland Pernet AG. This step led to the construction of a new building and far-reaching changes. The wholesale business was relocated to Zweisimmen in 2007 and deliveries to hotels made from there.

The new store opened its doors on the Promenade in early December 2008. In 2013 Patric Lutz decided to concentrate on the fine wines and spirits of Charles Hofer SA. Today, the Pernet Team makes deliveries to nearly a quarter of Switzerland. The wholesale business has become the mainstay of Pernet’s business and is continuously being developed, as is the store on the Promenade. The integration of Schneider & Co. wholesale traders in winter 2014/15 further extended our range of goods. With these new ventures and its traditional first-class service Pernet is optimistic about the future and ready to take up tomorrow’s challenges.

Dom Perignon P2

The considerably prolonged yeast storage intensifies the taste experience and brings out the note of toasted bread / brioche.

A special treat for every celebration.
